Often regarded as one of the most outstanding figures in modern Vietnamese history, she led an all-female insurrection ("Long-Haired Army") against the French colonial regime in Ben Tre Province (1945), as well as the Ben Tre uprising against the U.S.-backed Diem regime (1960) along with various espionage campaigns, and became deputy commander of the South Vietnam Liberation Forces.
