He starred in numerous Spaghetti Westerns, including Sugar Colt (1966), Django and Sartana Are Coming... It’s the End (1970), and A Barrel Full of Dollars (1971). Besides Westerns, he appeared in films like Spider-Man (2002), Falling Down (1993), and 8mm (1999). On television, he had roles in series such as General Hospital, Bonanza, Kojak, and Perry Mason. Betts studied acting at the University of Miami and was also active in theater. He wrote the play Screen Test: Take One and performed on Broadway.
