Giorgos Mihalakopoulos

He was born on 28 February 1938 in Athens and studied acting at the Drama School of the Art Theatre. In the theatre he had appeared in plays such as Crime and Punishment, The Death of the Salesman, Every Thursday Mr. Green and The Price. In the cinema he played in films such as Wake Up Santa Claus, The Barber's Beauty, A Knight for Vassula and The Gaze of Ulysses. On television, in the 1970s he co-starred, along with Vasilis Diamantopoulos, in the iconic television series Him and Him on EIRT, as well as in the remake of the series in the 1990s by ERT. He had won the Karolos Koun First Prize for Best Actor and the "Emilios Veakis" award. He had also served as a municipal councilor of Athens (1974-1986) and vice-president of KETHEA. He was married to fellow actress Athina Michalakopoulou, and with her he had two daughters, Ioanna, who is a director, and Eleni, who is a painter. He had declared himself a leftist, without being affiliated with any party. He died after a long hospitalization, as a result of a stroke, on 16 December 2023 at the age of 85. He was buried at the First Cemetery of Athens on 20 December.
