For his performance in Droneman (2020), he received the Czech Lion Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 Czech Lion Awards. Mádl made his directorial debut with the movie To See the Sea. His third film, historical drama Waves, was submitted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards, making the shortlist.
